Do’s and Don’ts

The Thai’s are generally a very tolerant race but there are a few things to remember.

**The head is considered sacred in Thailand so do not touch a Thai person on his head, it is deeply disrespectful and will end in tears!

**The feet are considered dirty in Thailand so do not point or gesture with your feet.

**Take off your shoes before entering temples or peoples homes.

**Smile, yelling at Thai people will get your precisely nowhere, no matter how much you think they are in the wrong and you are in the right, do yourself a favor smile and keep your cool, things will get a whole lot worse if you start yelling!

**Thai’s find nudity very upsetting so please don’t get your assets out on the beach or anywhere other than behind closed doors.

Tips and Advice

** Don’t bother to argue with taxi drivers on Samui, getting cross with them won’t help, if they don’t offer you the fare you feel is reasonable thank them and walk away.

** Watch out for the sun here it’s very strong; it’s all too easy to get really nasty sun burn, if you do get burnt use Aloe Vera or Natural Yoghurt to ease the pain.

** If you hire a moped please wear a helmet, the deaths on the roads of Thailand are shocking, Thai’s drive fairly erratically so drive with caution and being aware that 90% of crashes won’t be your mistake.

** Get health insurance, if you do have an accident hospital stays are as expensive as five star resorts and that is just for the room, make sure you are covered.

*Drugs, goes without saying, if you get caught you are ****ed!

** Mosquitoes carry Dengue fever, Malaria and a whole bunch of other nasty’s so bring some heavy duty repellant and look out around dusk when they come out to play.

** Food is really clean and safe on the whole in Thailand so enjoy the street vendors and cheap Thai eats.

** Bottled water only for drinking.

** Bus and train travel, take wet wipes and toilet paper with you as a lot of the truck stops don’t have them and keep your valuables with you at all times don’t leave them unattended.
