The nightlife on Koh Samui is as varied as the people that come to enjoy this stunning island and ranges from the tame to the exotic. Samui is packed to the brim with bars and restaurants to fit every taste and budget.
Eating
Samui boasts flavors from all over the globe and from street vendors offering low cost local delicacies to world class fine cuisine in top notch restaurants. We have tried most of them and here are some of our favourites.
Street food
you need look no further than the stalls directly opposite our resort where you can enjoy 40 baht noodle soup, BBQ sausages and chicken and other local dishes.
Pei Ched
When you fancy eating Thai the way the locals do venture out to the traffic lights on the ring road at the entrance to Bophut, Pei Ched is a huge restaurant that looks a bit like a barn but dishes up food to delight and at a price you can afford. The menu is varied and in places totally unfathomable but what ever you choose to indulge in you can guarantee it’s fresh and cooked to perfection. Pei ched is open from 4pm till 4am, handy when you are staggering home from the pub!
You and Me
In the village of Maenam is You and Me restaurant that has a pleasant ambiance and an interesting water feature. The menu is varied and has both Thai and western dishes, both equally delicious. Reasonably priced this is a great place for lunch or dinner
Elephant and Castle
A great place to enjoy English pub grub this is a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will find all of the usual suspects on the menu, we highly recommend the full English breakfast, bangers and mash and the ocean pie.
Cat-can-do
A great little bar at the Big Buddha end of the strip, pizzas are excellent value and huge! The Mexican food is very tasty and excellent value and come in very decent sized portions. A delivery service is available here if you are staying in or around Bang rak
When you want to go up market this is the place to go. Oceans 11 is an outstanding restaurant at the Bophut end of the strip and is right on the sea front. The goats cheese in here is about as good as it gets and the lamb will simply blow your head off. A superb menu, superb service and very friendly staff.
Orgasmic
This gem of a restaurant is to be found in between Bangrak and Bophut and dishes up what has to be some of the most delicious food to be found anywhere on the planet. The restaurant has spectacular views and its about as good as it gets anywhere in the world
Havali
When you fancy an Indian this is the only place we recommend, the naan breads are astounding and excellent value for money and the varied menu offers something for everybody. A delivery service is available so you can indulge anywhere you choose.
Nightlife
Bangrak has numerous bars along the strip. Several sports bars adorn are around so you don’t have to miss out on the game no matter which sport you follow. Many of the bars have Thai hostesses, we think you know what we mean and several have theme nights such as pub quizzes, killer pool nights and more commonly get drunk and fall over nights that seem to be very popular at the moment!
Bophut Fishermans Village is a popular spot and offer a range of places to drink and eat and its a little more romantic than Bang Rak. Friday night is walking street which means cars cant come in leaving you free to roam and enjoy the street markets
Clubbing
Chaweng is the party capital of the island and Green Mango Soi is at the heart of it. There are several places to dance the night away and ensure you feel like death warmed up the next day by indulging in the endless happy hour deals that are on offer. Bar Solo is very popular with expats and tourists, Green Mango night club is very popular with the locals, expats and visitors to the island alike and there are several bars in the area that seemingly never close
Christie’s cabaret
If you are looking for something a bit more exotic this is the place to go. Twice nightly shows are on offer where lady boys dress up and entertain in colourful costumes while miming to popular western cabaret numbers doing well choreographed dance routines. Its great fun, free to go in and well worth the trip. Don’t be fooled, even the sexy cute ones are boys! You have been warned!
